PM Nabbanja Hands Over Entebbe Botanical Gardens to UWEC for Tourism Boost

Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja has officially handed over the management of Entebbe Botanical Gardens to the Uganda Wildlife Education Conservation Centre (UWEC), to be supervised by the Ministry of Tourism.

The 40-acre gardens were previously managed by the National Agriculture Research Organisation (NARO) under the Ministry of Agriculture.

The handover ceremony took place at the NARO Uganda offices, where the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry, and Fisheries officially transferred the management to the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife, and Antiquities.

During the event, Prime Minister Nabbanja emphasized the government’s commitment to biodiversity conservation and the promotion of tourism.

She expressed the government’s dedication to expanding the role of Entebbe Botanical Gardens beyond its current functions.

The gardens are slated for development and will receive the necessary resources to support tourism, conservation education, awareness campaigns, and recreational activities.

The Prime Minister revealed the importance of preserving biodiversity and utilizing the potential of Entebbe Botanical Gardens as a center for environmental education.

“The expansion of EBG’s mandate aligns with the government’s broader vision of sustainable development and the promotion of Uganda as a prime destination for eco-tourism,” stated the Prime Minister.
