Museveni Raises Alarms at G77+Summit: SDGs at Risk for Developing Nations
President Museveni, addressing the G77+China Summit, expressed deep concern about the likelihood of many developing countries falling short of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by the 2030 deadline.
The Group of 77, comprising 135 developing countries, is a coalition aimed at advancing collective economic interests and enhancing joint negotiating capacity within the United Nations.
The summit reflects a collaborative effort among developing nations to address common challenges and promote mutual development on the global stage.
The President on Sunday mentioned significant obstacles hindering progress, including climate disasters, perceived unfair treatment in the global financial sector, and various actions taken by developed nations.
Museveni argued that the aspirations of Agenda 2030 face setbacks when countries grapple with challenges such as military occupation and emphasized the need for addressing human rights issues objectively rather than coercively.
Museveni stressed the importance of International Financial Institutions providing services to countries in need without compromising their sovereignty.
He advocated for a balanced approach to human rights, acknowledging their significance while urging a respectful way of handling of these matters.
