IGAD Summit Condemns Unjust Sudan Conflict, Calls for Immediate Ceasefire
The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) 42nd extraordinary assembly, hosted by President Museveni in Entebbe, condemns Sudan’s ongoing conflict.
In a joint communique, leaders decry the war as unjust, emphasizing Sudan belongs to its people, urging an immediate ceasefire. They call for dialogue, extending IGAD’s readiness to facilitate an inclusive peace process with all stakeholders, AU, and international actors.
Heads of state propose a face-to-face meeting between Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo within 14 days for reconciliation. They direct IGAD Secretariat, in coordination with AU, to revise the roadmap with a clear timeline. The collective call extends beyond IGAD, urging AU and the international community to mobilize support for Sudan’s peace process.
President Museveni states conflicting parties must end the unprincipled war, emphasizing the historical context of ANC’s peaceful methods. Leaders call for peace and dialogue, urging Ethiopia and Somalia to de-escalate tensions. They reaffirm commitment to respecting Somalia’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity.
