President Museveni Addresses Security Concerns, Warns ADF Rebels
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni addressed critical security concerns facing the country, specifically highlighting the persistent threat posed by the Allied Democratic Forces. Speaking from his residence in Rwakitura, Kiruhura District, on Tuesday evening, President Museveni delivered a comprehensive message focusing on key aspects crucial for the nation’s stability and progress.
Emphasizing that the nation’s strength lies in addressing internal weaknesses such as bad governance and ideology, President Museveni expressed confidence in the potential for success. He dismissed foreign influence, urging citizens to combat corruption and underscored the importance of environmental protection, connecting it to agriculture and rain systems.
The President issued a stern warning to the ADF rebel group, urging them to cease hostilities immediately or face inevitable destruction. He also called on the general public to discourage ADF members from further violence, emphasizing the consequences they would face.
This warning to the Allied Democratic Forces marks a significant moment in the ongoing efforts to ensure the nation’s security and stability.
President Museveni concluded his address by announcing his intention to run for the presidency in 2026.
Meanwhile, President Museveni pledged support to a British company that has developed a technique for inserting a deadly gene into mosquitoes, in collaboration with the Uganda Virus Research Institute, to combat malaria. This was revealed during a meeting between President Museveni and Oxitec Chief Executive Officer, Grey Frandsen, in Rwakitura.
President Museveni welcomed Oxitec to Uganda, expressing commitment to supporting their idea of partnering with Uganda to fight malaria in the country. Oxitec’s gene modification technique involves passing the transferred gene to the mosquito’s offspring, causing them to die before reaching adulthood. The President pledged to provide all necessary support to the institution to find a solution to combat this life-threatening disease.
The company has successfully used the technology in Brazil since 2011 and has explored projects in Panama, Djibouti, and the Marshall Islands. The meeting was attended by the Minister of Health, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng, the Director of Uganda Virus Research Institute, Prof. Pontian Kaleebu, and the Director of Health Services in the Ministry of Health, Dr. Joseph Okware.
