Monument Honors President Museveni’s Contributions to Ankole’s Development
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni was recently honored with a monument in Rushere Town Council, Kiruhura District, by the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) Engineers Brigade.
The monument serves as a tribute to President Museveni’s significant role in the development of the Greater Ankole region.
The monument’s significance lies in acknowledging President Museveni’s efforts to revolutionize cattle farming in the cattle corridor.
The UPDF Engineers Brigade erected the monument to recognize the President’s endeavors in educating cattle farmers. His initiative encouraged farmers to transition from nomadic practices to settling down, adopting dairy farming for socio-economic transformation.
Expressing his gratitude, President Museveni highlighted Rushere’s importance, noting that it was where he initiated his mission to educate farmers back in 1966. He believes the monument will serve as a valuable educational tool for the younger generation, providing insights into the socio-economic transformation of Greater Ankole’s people.
He expressed concerns about the declining socio-economic transformation in the cattle corridor.
The President emphasized to cattle farmers that the key to overcoming poverty lies in embracing dairy farming. He stressed that substantial income can be generated from small plots of land through the practice of zero grazing.
Lt. Gen. Peter Elwelu, Deputy Chief of Defense Forces, assured that the UPDF is committed to maintaining the peace brought about by the NRM government, safeguarding the development of Uganda.
Hon. Vincent Bamulangaki Ssempijja, Minister of Defence and Veteran Affairs, extended gratitude to President Museveni for his efforts in transforming the people of Ankole. He acknowledged the President’s role in shifting the mindset from working merely for sustenance to working for economic prosperity, a message that has resonated throughout Uganda.
