Pastor Alloysious Bugingo of the House of Prayer Ministry narrowly escaped an attempted murder, while his bodyguard, Muhumuza Richard, tragically lost his life.
Bugingo escaped death with minor injuries and managed to rush to Mulago hospital to receive treatment.
Police are now investigating the incident that happened at approximately 9 PM along Namungona, Zone 2, Kasubi Rubaga Division, Kampala, specifically at Bwalakata Junction along National Housing Road.
According to Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson, unidentified assailants, armed and riding a motorcycle, opened fire on Pastor Bugingo’s vehicle, registered as PRAIZ GOD, before swiftly fleeing the scene.
Despite sustaining injuries, Pastor Bugingo managed to transport the vehicle to Mulago Hospital.
Owoyesigyire says Bugingo’s bodyguard, Muhumuza Richard, succumbed to the assault and was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital.
He says when police arrived at the scene, they discovered signs of tampering at the crime scene.
He further explains that eyewitness statements have been recorded, and Muhumuza body was transported to the City Mortuary at Mulago for a thorough postmortem examination.
He adds that police are meticulously reviewing CCTV footage to identify the assailants and updates on the investigation will be provided.
