Museveni Reactivates LDUs After ADF Rebel Attacks

President Museveni has instructed security forces to reinstate Local Defence Units (LDUs) in response to the recent ADF rebel attack in Kamwenge, resulting in 10 fatalities.

“Due to the recurring atrocities by infiltrators from Congo, I have directed the UPDF to reactivate LDUs in areas surrounding Queen Elizabeth National Parks, Kibaale Forests, Kyenjojo and Kagadi forests, Semuliki National Park, and Bwindi National Park,” stated Museveni on Wednesday.

In the early hours of Tuesday, ADF rebels targeted Kyitehurizi trading center in Kamwenge, claiming 10 lives. The president emphasized the need to transform vulnerable villages into fortified local points, expressing a commitment to allocate necessary resources.

The attackers, identified as remnants of the Njovu-Kamusu group, had previously entered Uganda from Congo. Museveni commended the bravery of a young girl who escaped the attack and alerted the area, vowing to meet and thank her.

Using pangas instead of bullets to avoid detection, the rebels left two bodies and weapons during a recent encounter. Museveni pledged financial support to the families affected and warned that those responsible for the crimes, including associates, would face consequences unless they surrendered
