Sheikh Abdallah Ssemambo was inaugurated as Uganda’s interim Mufti on December 17, 2023, succeeding the suspended Sheikh Shaban Ramathan Mubajje.
Since January 17, 2021, Ssemambo had been serving as the first deputy Mufti of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council.
On December 16, 2023, members of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council’s National General Assembly, including numerous Muslim leaders, suspended Sheikh Ramadhan Mubajje from the Mufti position for a specified six-month period. This decision aimed to investigate his potential involvement in the sale of properties to Ugandan Muslims.
In response, the National General Assembly elected Sheikh Abdala Ssemambo as his first deputy and established a six-member committee to scrutinize Sheikh Ramadan’s business dealings.
