Holiday Season Crackdown: Police Target Drivers Without Licenses
Police have resumed operations against undisciplined and illegal motorists operating during the festive season, in a bid to bring order and safety on roads.
According to Micheal Kananura, the Traffic Police Spokesperson, they have seized 2,354 motorcycles and 523 vehicles in the past week. The riders and drivers had their vehicles impounded as they were found without proper driving licenses.
Kananura explains that many drivers lack basic driving skills because they either never attended a driving school or have not done so for decades.
Out of the impounded vehicles, 121 drivers did not possess driving licenses, 181 had expired permits, and 290 had licenses not suitable for the vehicles they were operating. For the 2,354 motorcycles seized, 1,247 lacked driving permits, 726 didn’t have crash helmets, 177 were without reflector jackets, and 82 were carrying more than one passenger.
The police operation aims to ensure that drivers and riders on the roads during the holiday season have the necessary skills and licenses to promote safety.
