Security Investigate Explosives in Kampala

Last night, two improvised explosive devices (IED) detonated in different locations in Uganda, causing concern for public safety and prompting ongoing investigations by authorities.

The first explosion occurred in Kikubamutwe parish in Kabalagala, while the second IED detonated in Nabweru Kibwa, Nassana municipality. Both devices were described as mechanical timer bombs.

In the city of Nabweru, the IED exploded in a house reportedly rented by two young men who left a bag in the room where the explosion occurred.

Meanwhile, in Kabalagala, the IED was planted on the veranda of a house in a busy street. Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were reported in either incident.

Law enforcement officials have urged the general public to remain vigilant and security-conscious as the Christmas and New Year festivities approach. The public has been advised to enhance security measures, particularly at gatherings such as bus and taxi parks, places of worship, discos, parties, lodges, and bars.

Authorities have also called on the media to continue disseminating information and creating awareness to combat the threat posed by terrorists.

According to the UPDF deputy spokesman Col Deo Akiiki, investigations into the detonation of these explosive devices are ongoing, and the public is encouraged to report any suspicious activities to the relevant authorities.
