Businessman’s Death: Katanga Case File Submitted to DPP

Uganda Police spokesperson Fred Enanga has confirmed that police experts are awaiting guidance from the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) regarding the case of deceased businessman Henry Katanga.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has submitted the file to the DPP for a decision on the matter.

Katanga was shot dead in his master bedroom on November 01, 2023, at Mbuya Hill, with police attributing his death to a domestic quarrel with his wife, Molly Katanga.

He was shot in the head with a pistol UG 1622200061CZ99, according to ballistic experts. Katanga’s wife Molly Katanga, daughter Tricia Katanga, and male house helper were in the house the night of the murder.

Enanga told journalists at a press briefing on Monday that CID detectives have shared their findings, and a decision has been made to seek the DPP’s advice on the appropriate charges against the key suspects.

The murder was initially reported to Bugolobi police station and later to Jinja Road Main Station.

Deputy Inspector General of Police Maj Gen Geoffrey Katsigazi Tumusiime and Kampala Metropolitan Police Commander Stephen Tanui reportedly rushed to the scene.

Katanga’s other daughter and Dr. Charles Otai who were first called when the murder happened, have become witnesses. Dr. Otai, who was initially arrested by police and CMI, had attempted to provide first aid after the shooting in an unsuccessful attempt to save Katanga’s life.

Both Dr. Otai and the male house helper are currently being held at the former Special Investigation Unit – SIU Kireka, now occupied by the Flying Squad Unit and Crime Intelligence.
