Njovu Remanded to Luzira Prison: Faces Terrorism and Murder Charges
Abdul-Rashid Kyoto, also known as Njovu, has been remanded to Luzira Prison by the Nakawa Chief Magistrate’s Court on charges of terrorism and the murder of two British tourists and their Ugandan guide in Queen Elizabeth National Park.
He was arrested during a military operation on Lake Edward, last week.
Appearing in court on crutches, Kyoto faces nine charges, including confessing to belonging to a terrorist organization, terrorism, murder, and aggravated robbery, all of which carry the death penalty upon conviction.
The 31-year-old, residing in the Democratic Republic of Congo, is accused of causing the death of a British couple and their Ugandan guide on October 17th, 2023, in Queen Elizabeth National Park. He allegedly murdered the victims, burned two vehicles, and robbed them of passports, money, and other valuables using a deadly weapon.
Njovu is also charged with professing to be the commander in a terrorist organization, ADF, between 2018 and November 1st, 2023.
The prosecution, represented by Chief State Attorney Lillian Omara Alum and Assistant DPP Thomas Jatiko, stated that inquiries are ongoing.
The court remanded him until November 17th, 2023.
