Minister Musenero Emphasizes Uganda’s Science-Led Transformation
The minister of Science Technology and innovation Dr Monica Musenero addressed media in advance of the forthcoming National Science Week, emphasizing the global trend of strong economies realigning their priorities to adapt to an ever-evolving landscape.
Dr. Musenero stressed that Uganda cannot afford to be a passive observer in the face of global initiatives, primarily led by counterparts in the fields of Science-led transformation, which will shape the future and determine the nation’s survival. She asserted that it is a collective duty as a nation to seize groundbreaking opportunities and align with global developments.
Furthermore, Dr. Musenero highlighted that the National Science Week is organized around eight thematic areas, closely aligned with the work of the STI Secretariat’s Bureaus. This year, the event will span six days, from November 6th to 11th, 2023, offering participants from all walks of life a hands-on understanding of Uganda’s remarkable progress in the fields of Science, Technology, and Innovation, with the hope that citizens will recognize the profound impact of these fields on Uganda’s economic transformation.
The theme for this year’s National Science Week 2023 is “Uganda Tusimbudde: Our Science-led Journey Towards Socio-economic Transformation.” Dr. Musenero described this theme as a call to action, urging every Ugandan to actively participate in the journey toward socio-economic progress facilitated by Science, Technology, and Innovation, through the STI Secretariat and their partners. She emphasized the pivotal role of innovation in individual and national growth, as all Ugandans share a commitment to the nation’s development.
The Minister elaborated on the thematic areas that will be explored and showcased during the event, covering topics such as Pathogen Economy, Mobility, Import Substitution, Infrastructure Innovation, Export-Targeted STI, Industry 4.0+, Productivity Acceleration, and Aeronautics and Space.
Dr. Musenero also presented the event schedule, which will be inaugurated by His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, President of the Republic of Uganda, at the Kololo Ceremonial Grounds. The schedule includes specific days for the press, the official inauguration, academia, policy and synergy discussions, investor engagement, and a family day.
Dr. Musenero asked all Ugandans to seek accurate information on matters related to Science, Technology, and Innovation, reinforcing the idea that this is their home, and they are always welcome to be part of this transformation journey.
