Police in Agago district, have arrested a 32-year-old man for the alleged murder a 53-year-old over 1000 shillings debt.
The suspect identified as Okello Aldo Akech stabbed his victim Okwera Tarasisto, a resident of Nyer Ikan South village. The incident occurred on the 23rd of October, 2023, at approximately 2:30 pm.
It all started when Akech repaired a padlock for the victim, Okwera and requested a fee of Ugx 2000 for his services. However, when Tarasisto handed over only Ugx 1000 and promised to provide the remaining Ugx 1000 at a later time, a dispute arose.
Fred Enanga, the Uganda police spokesperson says tempers flared as the Akech vehemently demanded the full amount, leading to a heated confrontation. Tragically, the altercation took a deadly turn when Akech forcibly took a knife from Tarasisto and viciously stabbed him in the left side of the rib.
Locals who heard screams rushed to the scene and Akech was taken to the local LC1 Chairperson. Meanwhile, Tarasisto succumbed to his injuries on his way to Kalongo Hospital.
An enraged mob subsequently targeted the suspect, but the Lapono police post intervened, rescuing Akech from potential harm. A knife, presumably the murder weapon, was seized as evidence by the authorities.
