Gen Mbadi Hails Uganda-Ethiopia Historical Ties

The Chief of Defence Forces of Uganda, Gen Wilson Mbadi, recently visited Ethiopia to engage in a series of meetings with army leaders, highlighting the historical links between the two nations.

One of the key purposes of his visit was to participate in the 116th National Army Celebrations for the Ethiopian National Defence Forces (ENDF), held at Meskel Square in Addis Ababa. During this significant event, the ENDF reaffirmed its commitment to peace, stability, and the remarkable achievements of its army in the fight against colonialism, demonstrating its readiness to uphold its national legacy.

Inspired by a shared vision of Pan-Africanism, both Uganda and Ethiopia aspire to stand at the forefront of regional cooperation. Gen Mbadi’s visit underscored this commitment, emphasizing the importance of nurturing their relationship. “We will continue to cherish the excellent status of our relationship, which we value because of our shared heritage that transcends colonial borders,” stated Gen Mbadi in his message.

In addition to attending the National Army Celebrations, Gen Mbadi delivered a special message from the President of Uganda, His Excellency Yoweri Museveni, to the people of Ethiopia, further cementing the bond between the two countries.

During his visit, Gen Mbadi paid a courtesy call on his counterpart at the Ethiopian Defence Forces Headquarters, where both parties engaged in productive discussions on bilateral matters of mutual interest. He also visited the Ethiopian National Defence Forces Airforce Headquarters, providing an opportunity for further collaboration between the military counterparts of the two nations.

Furthermore, Gen Mbadi had the privilege of visiting the African Union Headquarters, where he was warmly received by key officials, including the AU Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security H.E Amb. Bankole Adeoye, and the Director of Conflict Management Dr Alhadji Sarjoh Bar. The meetings centered on vital topics such as regional stability, the situation in Somalia, and broader developments across Africa.

Ultimately, Gen Mbadi’s visit to Ethiopia served to strengthen cooperation between Uganda and Ethiopia in the defense and security sectors. It also facilitated crucial discussions on regional peace and stability, underlining the significance of a unified and collaborative approach among African nations.
