Man Sentenced to Two Years for Conspiracy to Kill Wife
The Luwero Magistrate Court has sentenced a man to two years in jail for his involvement in a conspiracy to kill his wife, Lilian Namboowa.
Friday Musoke, a businessman, and his girlfriend, Enid Kanyonyozi, had been facing charges related to the conspiracy since January 13, 2023.
Earlier this year, both Musoke and Kanyonyozi pleaded not guilty, but Musoke recently expressed his willingness to enter a plea bargain for a lighter sentence. The charges were re-read to Musoke, and he pleaded guilty.
Court heard that between June 2022 and January 2023, Musoke conspired with Kanyonyozi to eliminate his wife due to ongoing domestic violence.
Musoke had approached a doctor with an offer of money to carry out the act, and Kanyonyozi made an initial payment as part of their plan. The doctor reported the matter to the police, leading to Musoke’s arrest. During the arrest, Musoke admitted his intentions. Despite a maximum sentence of 14 years for the offense, a plea bargain arrangement resulted in a two-year sentence for Musoke, considering his status as a first-time offender and his role as the caretaker of four children.
Musoke’s wife requested a lenient sentence, and the Chief Magistrate sentenced Musoke to two years in jail, accounting for the time he had already spent in remand.
The State Attorney was instructed to amend the plea bargain agreement to accommodate the wife’s requests. Kanyonyozi’s case was adjourned to November 27, 2023, for a hearing.
