The Inspector General of Police, Martin Ochola, has expressed his appreciation and commendation for the exceptional work carried out by the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) in collecting compelling evidence that ultimately led to the successful prosecution of the perpetrators behind the tragic deaths of former social worker Maria Nagirinya and her driver, Ronald Kitayimba.
This incident occurred on August 28, 2019, when Maria Nagirinya and Ronald Kitayimba were kidnapped and subsequently killed by a group led by Kopriano Kasolo just outside Nagirinya’s residence in Lungujja, Lubaga Division, Kampala.
The evidence gathered by the CID played a pivotal role in ensuring that justice was served, offering closure to the families of the victims and the community at large.
High Court Judge Isaac Muwata delivered guilty verdicts and life sentences to several individuals in two separate murder cases, marking a victory for justice and closure for the victims’ families.
Muwata found the key suspect, Compoliyamu Kasolo, guilty of six charges, including the kidnap, murder, and aggravated robbery of Maria Nagirinya and Ronald Kitayimbwa. Kasolo was sentenced to life imprisonment for his involvement in the heinous crimes. In addition, his accomplices, Hassan Kisekka, Nasif Kalyango, and Shafik Mpanga, were each handed 30-year prison terms for their roles in the case. The judge deducted the period they had spent on remand. This verdict adds to the previous guilty plea by Isaac Ssenabulya.
In a separate case, The IGP also praised the High Court following the sentence of Felista Namaganda, 28, to life imprisonment for the horrifying act of sacrificing her landlord’s daughter, Isabbella Trinity Nakisuyi, aged 4.
The victim was the daughter of John Mulodi and Annet Nakisasi of Kakira cell in Jinja City.
Namaganda’s boyfriend, Pastor Joseph Sselubiri of the Healing and Deliverance church in Market cell, Kakira Town Council, had previously pleaded guilty and received a life sentence for the murder, along with an additional 30 years for child trafficking.
The gruesome details of the case involve the beheading of the 4-year-old victim, with her headless body discarded in a sugarcane plantation in Kakira, Jinja district. Subsequently, her severed head was discovered in Wanyamge.
SCP Fred Enanga, the Police Spokesperson, extended heartfelt gratitude to the public for their unwavering trust and patience throughout the extensive investigations and trials in two high-profile murder cases.
Enanga acknowledges that the successful outcomes are a testament to the remarkable collaboration and cooperation between various law enforcement agencies and the support of the community.
Enanga emphasizes that the convictions achieved are the result of dedicated cooperation and collaboration involving a wide array of law enforcement units, including the police at KMP, Jinja City, CID (Criminal Investigations Directorate), Flying Squad, Crime Intelligence, CMI (Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence), SFC (Special Forces Command), IT (Information Technology), and CCTV teams, General Duties, FFU (Field Force Unit), and PRO (Public Relations Officer), among others.
