Museveni Addresses Tragic Terrorist Attack in Queen Elizabeth National Park, Calls for Vigilance

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has issued a statement to fellow Ugandans, including the Bazzukulu, addressing a tragic incident that occurred on October 17, 2023, in the Queen Elizabeth National Park. During this unfortunate event, a small group of terrorists, fleeing from operations in Congo as previously communicated, attacked and killed a couple of tourists and their Ugandan driver on the Katwe-Kabatooro murram road at around 1800hrs.

The President condemned this cowardly act by the terrorists, emphasizing the tragic loss of innocent lives, particularly the newlywed couple who had chosen Uganda as their honeymoon destination. He assured that justice would be served upon the perpetrators. However, he also emphasized that retribution would not bring back these valuable lives. The Ugandan High Commission in the UK would reach out to the victims’ families to provide necessary support in this distressing situation.

Furthermore, President Museveni called upon the UPDF, the Police, the UWA, and the intelligence agencies to ensure that such incidents do not recur and to continue the efforts to eliminate the ADF. While progress had been made in dismantling the ADF, he acknowledged a need to prevent further atrocities. He congratulated the efforts of the Wanainchi, the Police, and other agencies in thwarting recent potential attacks on various locations.

President Museveni pointed out a couple of lapses in the security measures, such as tourists arriving and departing individually, leaving a gap for exploitation. He also mentioned the need for more reliable tracking methods, which had been discussed with the Army to effectively combat the remnants of these fugitive groups from Congo.

The President expressed confidence in the eventual defeat of the terrorists, drawing parallels with the defeat of Kony and other criminal elements that had threatened the peace and security of the nation. He concluded by extending his wishes for eternal peace for the souls of those affected by these unfortunate incidents.
