Uganda National Examinations Board Confirms Smooth Start to UCE Exams
Jennifer Kalule, the spokesperson for the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB), confirmed that the Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) examination papers were delivered on time to both the main and sub-stations.
A total of 364,421 candidates across the country registered for this academic year’s examinations. The exams began with Geography Papers 1 and 2, a compulsory subject for all candidates. Kalule reported that there was a sense of normalcy, with only slight disruptions due to morning rains in some parts of the country.
In Kampala’s busy storage centers, examination papers and related materials were dispatched to their designated centers on Sunday evening and arrived by 8:00 p.m. Despite initial concerns about the morning rain, the weather cleared before 7:00 a.m., ensuring a smooth start to the testing process. Scouts and officials were prepared at the storage areas by 6:30 a.m., and a crucial briefing meeting took place at 7:30 a.m. However, the examination containers were not opened until 8:30 a.m.
Kalule also mentioned that, to her knowledge, there were no reported cases of examination malpractice on the first day. However, any instances of malpractice that may arise will be investigated and dealt with under the UNEB Act 2021. She emphasized that engaging in misconduct could lead to the cancellation of examination results and potential exposure to criminal charges.
Candidates are scheduled to sit for Chemistry practicals and oral music on Tuesday.
