Uganda Cranes Move Four Places up in latest FIFA Rankings
Following back to back wins from the two previous encounters with Lesotho in the African Cup of nations qualifiers, the Uganda cranes climbed four places up, from 83rd to 79th.
Uganda beat Lesotho 3-0 at Namboole courtesy of Emmanuel Okwi’s brace and Farouk Miya’s penalty, and the latter netted a brace in a 2-0 victory at the Setsoto Stadium in Lesotho.
According to the rankings released on Thursday, Uganda has accumulated 1306 (1305.86) points, up from 1291.
The Uganda cranes 2019 AFCON Qualifiers Group L opponents Lesotho dropped four places to 149 while Cape Verde dropped by a place to 68th as a result.
Uganda’s highest rank was 62rd in January 2016, and the lowest has been 121st in July 2002.
The East African neighbours Kenya rose two places to 105, Tanzania also rose four places to 136. Rwanda dropped a place to 138 whereas Burundi rose six places to 142.
On the continent, Tunisia (22), Senegal (25), Nigeria (44), Congo DR (46) and Morocco (47) are the top five ranked countries.
Gibraltar (190th, up 8), though, were undoubtedly October’s biggest Nations League Success story, and their first-ever competitive wins against Armenia (101, down 1) and Lichtenstein (182, down 4) are reflected in a record ranking position- and this month’s biggest rise.
Belgium top the world rankings with France who were joint leaders last month dropping to second place. Brazil came in third, world cup finalists Croatia were in forth while England were fifth, with this being their highest rank in five years.
