Joint Security Agencies have busted a plot by supporters of National Unity Platform (NUP) leader, Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, to organize processions on Thursday, in a bid to welcome him back to the country.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Patrick Onyango, has revealed that security forces have received intelligence indicating that various individuals and groups have been mobilized and financially incentivized to stay at lodges in Entebbe, in anticipation of Bobi Wine’s arrival at Entebbe International Airport.
Onyango has disclosed that the group intends to march from the airport through several areas, including Kitoro, Katabi, Kitala, Kajjansi, Lubowa, the central business district, Kalerwe, and Kasangati. He has emphasized that this activity is illegal and will result in severe traffic disruptions, interruptions to business activities, and may even attract criminal elements. Furthermore, businesses, passengers, and motorists are likely to be adversely affected or become victims of these unlawful acts.
The police spokesperson has issued a stern warning to the public, including boda boda riders who have received money to partake in these illicit activities, advising them to stay at home and utilize the provided funds for personal needs instead.
“Boda bodas that have been provided funds to rent lodges within Entebbe in anticipation of blockage, please be informed that security will not prevent anyone from accessing Entebbe tomorrow. However, those who engage in the procession will face arrest. Therefore, it is recommended to use the money for your own needs and remain at home. Additionally, those involved in mobilization should cease immediately.” he said
Onyango has expressed appreciation for those who have refrained from participating in these unlawful activities, including boda boda riders, taxi operators, members of the business community, and the youth from various communities.
He has assured the public that the police and other security agencies will deploy substantial resources ahead of the planned procession to maintain law and order.
