The Minister for presidency Milly Babalanda has revealed that the 61st National Independence Day Celebrations will happen in Kitgum district on October 09,2023.

The theme for this year’s celebrations is “sustaining a united and progressive nation, taking charge of our future as a free nation” President Yoweri Museveni will grace the event at the Kitgum farm Institute in Kitgum Municipality.

While addressing journalists at the Uganda Media Center on Tuesday, Babalanda stated that the theme falls in line with the country’s history and citizens who patriotically contributed to the independence. She further states that this year’s theme is rooted in the ideals of the founding fathers who envisaged a country based on rule of law, democracy, social economic transformation and good governance.

The Minister says the National Resistance Movement (NRM)government has continued to transform the country with a science led vision.

According to Babalanda, the government will honor 41 individuals with national medals for extraordinary roles in uplifting Uganda.

The Minister says only  guests who will seat near the president will be required to undergo covid 19 tests that start on Friday October 06 at Kitgum hospital for people in Acholi and two other venues in Kampala at State house land offices and office of the president.
