FDC’s Katonga Road Faction Plans NEC Meeting and Legal Action Amid Party Disputes

Erias Lukwago, the interim president of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), Katonga Road faction, has announced plans to hold a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting to establish a roadmap for party structure elections. This decision comes amid ongoing factional disputes within the FDC.

Lukwago revealed that they have taken steps to invalidate the signatures of leaders from the rival Najjanankumbi faction, including Nandala Mafabi, the secretary-general, and Geoffrey Ekanya, the party treasurer.

The Katonga group has also filed a civil suit against Toterebuka Bamwenda, whom they claim is wrongfully acting as the Chief Electoral Commissioner of FDC, usurping the authority of Chairperson Wasswa Birigwa and calling a delegates conference scheduled for October 6th.

“We assure you that we are going to conduct a credible electoral process befitting the party our forefathers established, and the constitution is respected in that regard.” said Lukwago

Lukwago emphasized that the civil suit was filed because Bamwenda had not been duly elected or appointed by the National Delegates Conference, as required by the party’s constitution.

“We filed a civil suit in the High Court against Toterubuka Bamwenda for holding out as Chief Electoral Commissioner of the party without being duly elected or appointed by the National Delegates Conference as stipulated in the party’s constitution” he added

Additionally, Lukwago pointed out that the suspended Secretary-General and Treasurer should not have valid signatures on the party’s accounts while under suspension.

“We have the Secretary-General and the Treasurer as signatories to the party accounts who are in suspension. As long as they remain in suspension, their signatures on those accounts cannot be valid.” he stated

He assured party members and the public that the Katonga faction is committed to conducting credible and constitutionally sound electoral processes within the FDC.

Lukwago also mentioned that the recent Extraordinary Delegates Conference held by their faction resulted in resolutions, including the suspension of Patrick Amuriat and the initiation of disciplinary procedures.

Erias Lukwago, acting president of FDC, stated, “We were assigned the duty of bringing the party back on the rail, and we are vigorously pursuing it.”

This announcement comes amidst the ongoing internal conflicts and leadership disputes within the FDC.
