Lodge Owner Arrested After Woman Dies In Rented Room

Police in Busoga East are yet to identify the lifeless body of a 21-year-old woman that was recovered at M and Dent Guest House, located in Wabulungu A cell, Magamaga town council.

The incident occurred on September 13, 2023, when an unidentified man had reportedly rented a room at the guesthouse and was later joined by the victim. However, the man abruptly left the room at around 8:00 PM, raising suspicions among the lodge operators.

Concerned about the man’s sudden departure, the operators decided to check the room at approximately 8:30 PM, only to find the young woman’s lifeless body in a pool of blood. They immediately informed local leaders, who subsequently alerted the police.

The deceased was transported to the Mayuge Health Center IV mortuary, where preliminary investigations have revealed strangulation marks on her body.

This has led investigators to suspect that the perpetrator may have strangled her before cutting her throat. Additionally, the report suggests that the suspect had placed pieces of clothing into the victim’s mouth to prevent her from making noise during the commission of the crime, potentially attracting attention from nearby communities.

Busoga East police spokesperson, Diana Nandawula, announced that they have taken Agnes Turyamuhebwa, the owner of the guesthouse, into custody at the Mayuge Central Police Station.

She is awaiting further inquiries related to the case. Nandawula also urged all hotel and lodge owners to adhere to the presidential directive, requiring them to register their clients.

This measure, she emphasized, would greatly assist in investigations related to sudden deaths and other criminal activities
