UPDF Air Force Retirees Bid Farewell to Distinguished Officers

Retiring officers from the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Air Force received heartfelt advice and recognition during a special dinner held at Air Force headquarters in Entebbe.

Commander Air Force, Lt Gen Charles Okidi, emphasized the importance of safeguarding their retirement packages as they transition into civilian life.

Lt Gen Okidi spoke of the Air Force’s tradition of honoring retirees, acknowledging their invaluable service to the nation in various leadership and command roles. He encouraged them to meticulously plan for a smooth transition into civilian life, underscoring the need to be vigilant and mindful of the challenges that await outside the military.

Expressing his best wishes for a prosperous retirement, Lt Gen Okidi also extended gratitude to the retirees’ spouses and families for their unwavering support throughout their military careers.

One of the retiring senior officers, Brig Gen Kwehangana, revealed that he was bidding farewell to an institution he had faithfully served for an impressive 50 years, having joined in 1973. He commended the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs for fostering an environment that allowed the UPDF to fulfill its duties and responsibilities effectively.

Reflecting on the transition ahead, Brig Gen Kwehangana reminded his fellow retirees that endings often mark the beginning of new opportunities. He emphasized that one is never too old to embark on new endeavors.

Ms. Jacqueline Kankunda, the Deputy Resident District Commissioner of Entebbe, took the opportunity to express gratitude to the President of Uganda and Commander in Chief of the UPDF, H.E Gen YK Museveni, for his commitment to building a disciplined and ideologically clear armed forces. She also commended the Air Force for consistently supporting the Entebbe community whenever their assistance was needed.

Among the retired officers were Brig Kaija Atwooki, Maj Henry Nkalubo, and Maj Paddy, each having contributed significantly to the nation’s defense. The event was attended by both senior and junior officers serving at UPDAF headquarters in Entebbe, reflecting the camaraderie and unity within the force.
