Pope Francis Commends President Museveni,Speaker for Protecting Family Values

Pope Francis has expressed his gratitude to President Yoweri Museveni and Speaker of Parliament Anita Among for their efforts in upholding family values and protecting societal and religious principles.

During a private audience at the Vatican on August 25, 2023, the Pope highlighted the importance of the family as the foundation of society and praised Uganda’s commitment to preserving these values.

Pope Francis specifically thanked Speaker Among, the Parliament, and the Ugandan people for their dedication to family values, emphasizing that families are essential pillars of society. He encouraged her to continue leading the Parliament in enacting legislation that promotes both godly and societal principles.

Furthermore, the Pope urged Speaker Among to remain steadfast in safeguarding religious values, calling on her to uphold strong Christian beliefs and support laws that ensure religious freedom, economic prosperity, and social justice based on biblical teachings.

Pope Francis also commended President Museveni’s leadership, acknowledging his efforts in promoting human rights and offering refuge to those in need. He praised Uganda’s hospitality towards refugees and congratulated President Museveni and First Lady Janet Museveni on their 50th marriage anniversary.

The Pope recognized the President’s leadership during challenging times, such as the Covid-19 pandemic, and his commitment to preserving cultural and societal values.

Speaker Among expressed gratitude for the Pope’s prayers and blessings, conveying greetings from President Museveni. She appreciated the opportunity for a private audience at the Vatican and noted that this was her third visit to the holy city.
