Father Detained for Severe Torture of 6-Year-Old Son in Namayingo

Police in Busoga North and Namayingo have apprehended Okato Johnson Rapando, a Kenyan national, on charges of aggravated torture against his 6-year-old son, Rapando Emmanuel.

The distressing incident occurred in Butahandu village, Namayingo district, where the suspect had been residing with his wife and son for the past 5 years.

Shocking images, which subsequently went viral, captured the suspect subjecting his young son to severe torture. The visuals depicted the child with his hands and legs bound using four ropes, secured to two trees or poles. The suspect then proceeded to physically assault the helpless child using a stick in an aggressive and brutal manner.

Fred Enanga, the Police spokesperson says swift intervention of Bwire Nelcko, the local area Chairman, led to the rescue of the victim.

He explains that the child was rushed to Oklings clinic in Mukorobi Trading Centre for medical treatment, while the police took the suspect into custody. Evidence recovered from the scene included broken sticks, a panga (machete), and two ropes.

He has cautioned that parents to seek support from the Child and Family Protection Unit available at their nearest police station. This unit is equipped to address family issues and provide guidance on appropriate and lawful methods of child discipline.
