Students of Pallisa Girls Primary School have been left counting loses after a bus they were traveling in caught fire on Tuesday night at around 1:00 am.

The tragedy unfolded as seventy pupils, accompanied thirteen teachers, were returning from a music festival held in Serere district.

The group was traveling aboard Kakise Bus with registration number UAS 437P during the night of Tuesday when the bus was engulfed in flames near Atoot Swamp along Mukongoro road in Ngora district.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire originated from a burst rear tire sparking the blaze.

Oscar Gregg Ageca, the East Kyoga Regional Police Spokesman, says no fatalities were reported in the incident. He however says their belongings were consumed by the fire. Among the lost items were personal effects like clothing, uniforms, bedding, boxes, and musical instruments.

Ageca says police has initiated investigations into the matter, and statements were collected from victims.
