Government Chief Whip Announces Theme for International Youth Day 2023

This year’s International Youth Day celebrations, as announced by Hon Denis Hamison Obua, the Government Chief Whip, will center around the recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic and its impacts.

The theme for the event is “Accelerating Recovery from Covid-19 and full implementation of the 2030 Agenda.” Scheduled for August 18, 2023, at Kigezi Lower Primary school in Kabale District, the day aims to recognize youth potential and assess achievements in youth empowerment, growth, and development.

It provides an opportunity for the government to evaluate interventions, adjust strategies, and reflect on the progress made. The celebration is aligned with the goal of reviewing how young people’s businesses have rebounded from the pandemic and their contribution to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

The statement highlights the government’s efforts in developing programs to empower and strengthen youth resilience in the face of economic challenges. Notable achievements include the National Action Plan on Youth, Peace, and security, as well as efforts to combat teenage pregnancy and early marriages.

Uganda participates in this global observance on August 12, a day designated by the UN General Assembly Resolution 54/120 of 1999 for youth development reflection and commitment.
