Security Forces Arrest Twelve Suspects Over Deadly Revenge Attack In Nabilatuk

Security forces in the Karamoja sub region are holding twelve suspected cattle rustlers over revenge attacks between the Pian and Pokot communities.

The suspects include Pokot and members of Pian community in Nabilatuk district. The Pain Community is accused of carrying out deadly attacks in early July when the raided Amudat district. They stole 58 cows and killed a prominent elder in the area, Lochuman Komole Lobai.

The Pokot hit back in revenge and killed at least 20 people from the Pian community. So far, three people have been killed in separate attacks in Nabilatuk district.

Mt Moroto Regional Police Spokesperson Michael Longole says among those arrested include 10 suspects from the Pokot community and two people from Nabilatuk district who participated in the killing of Lochuman.

He explains that the suspects will aid in the investigations and lead to the arrest of others who were involved in the same crime.
According to Longole, the Pokot had resolved to kill everyone they come across from the Pian community including innocent road users. Longole also observed that the revenge attacks have since reduced following the several engagements between the two conflicting communities of Pokot and Pian.

Last week, the authorities in Nabilatuk district banned peace dialogues following concerns about certain individuals in Lorengedwat Sub County forming alliances with the neighboring districts to counter the Pian community which is causing terror.
