President Museveni in Oyam To Campaign For NRM Candidate Engola, To Hold Rallies

President Yoweri Museveni is today expected in Oyam district to campaign for the National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidate ahead of a by-election slated for Thursday, July 06, 2023.

The Legislator seat fell vacant following the demise of Hon. Charles Engola the MP who doubled as Junior Minister for Labour. Engola was murdered in cold blood by his bodyguard at his residence in Kyanja, a Kampala surburb in May 2023.
Several candidates from various political parties have since expressed optimism in replacing the deceased, they include; son to the deceased Samuel Okello Engola who stands on the NRM ticket, Daniel Okello National Unity Platform’s (NUP), Forum for Democratic Change’s (FDC) Newton Okello and Uganda People’s Congress (UPC), Dr. Eunice Apio. 
According to the NRM Secretary-General Richard Todwong, President Museveni, the NRM Chairman will campaign for the Samuel Engola.

The President who is currently in the northern region is expected to also address two rallies at Otwal Primary School in Otwal Sub County and  Tegonyi Primary School in Iceme Sub County .

Todwong explains that the President will address the crowds on household income and poverty eradication issues.

“Poverty remains the main hindrance to community progress. We believe that the President’s message of wealth creation, which has been successfully preached and adopted in other areas, can also be applied here,” he said.

Todwong says the President will also pay homage to the deceased minister Charles Okello Engola and lay a wreath on his grave at home in Awang village, about 5km East of Oyam town.

Several political leaders have already pitched camp in Oyam awaiting what could be hotly contested polls. Among them include; UPC party President Jimmy Akena, NRM electoral commission Chairperson Tanga Odoi,government Chief Whip Denis Obua among others.
