Kasese School Attack: Gen Mbadi, Kayanja Lead Persuit of ADF Terrorists
Suspected Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) terrorists have attacked a school in Kasese district, killing 25 students.
Currently, security forces are in a hot persuit of the terorrists who are said to have retreated into DRC jungles.
The UPDF spokesperson Brig Felix Kulayigye said in a statement that the Chief of Defence Forces and Commander Land Forces have been asked by the President to lead the persuit of the criminals in order to rescue those abducted and destroy the criminal gang.
“H.E has dispatched the Min of Ed and sports to commensurate with the school. Meanwhile, the CDF and CLF are joining the Div Commander on the ground for on spot assessment,” Brig Kulayigye said in the statement.
Earlier, the Police issued the statement below;
“A hot pursuit by the UPDF and the police is ongoing, towards Virunga national park,” Police Spokesman Fred Enanga said in the statement issued Saturday morning.
The Friday night attack happened at Lhubirira Secondary School where students were attacked while sleeping in their dormitories by the terrorists.
The school, in Mpondwe, is about two kilometres from the Democratic Republic of Congo border with Uganda.
According to the police statement, the dormitory in which the students were sleeping was burnt by the terrorists who fled back to the DRC.
“Last night, we registered a terrorist attack by the ADF rebels, on Lhubirira secondary school, in Mpondwe, that is located about 2 kms, from the DRC border. A dormitory was burnt and a food store looted.
The statement signed by the police spokesman Fred Enanga confirms that 25 bodies have been recovered from the school and transferred to Bwera Hospital while 8 sustained serious injuries and are receiving treatment at Bwera Hospital.
