Police in Wakiso District are holding six suspects linked to a spate of robberies in the area.

According to Luke Owoyesigyire the Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, the suspects were arrested after security officers conducted surveillance in Gayaza Trading Centre, Gayaza Ward, Kasangati Town Council, Wakiso District following reports from locals of armed robbers in the area.

Owoyesigyire says they are currently in custody at Kasangati Police Station. He identifies the suspects as Kawoya Charles (17), Sekubuge Akiram (23), Mwesigwa Enock (32), Sagara Denis ( 27), and Mwanja Ivan (31). Another suspect arrested is Nekesa Rachael, (29) a wife to Richard Mwesigwe, the suspected commander of the group who remains on the run.

He says during the operation, the police recovered eight sharpened pangas, six pit axes, five spanas, two motorcycles (UEF 094E Yamaha red in colour, UEK 221S Bajaj boxer red in colour), and a box containing nails. It was discovered that the criminals had planned to attack the Namugongo areas.
