Police Recover Two Illegal Guns in Maracha
A Joint security operation on Tuesday recovered two illegal guns in Maracha. The guns are believed to have been used to terrorize locals in the district and neighbouring areas.
The recovered guns are an AK47 registration number 56-16219008 with five rounds of ammunition and an SAR gun registration number TK2854 with four rounds of ammunition. The guns were recovered in two different incidences in Nyara cell, Okapi ward in Maracha Town council Maracha district.
Josephine Angucia, the West Nile region police spokesperson explains that the guns were recovered with the help of security informers who tipped them about existence of the illegal guns in the area.
According to Angucia, they believe the guns could have been sneaked from the neighbouring South Sudan or Democratic Republic of Congo through the porous borders. She further notes that, no arrest has been made as investigations continue into the matter.
Over the past, few month, cases of armed robbery attack have been rampant in the West Nile sub region.
Last month, Mohamad Abiriga, a prominent businessman in Arua City was shot and robbed 50 million shillings at gunpoint when robbers attacked him as he drove home.
Similarly, on February 27, 2023, thugs broke into four ATM cassettes at Post Bank Yumbe branch, and went away with an un-established amount of money.
