Mwesigwa; ” NUP leaders promised me 50 million to get tortured and taint the Government’s Image”

Eric Mwesigwa, an opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) supporter, who was paraded by the party president Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine on allegations of torture in the hands of security operatives has back tracked on his earlier statements.

Mwesigwa went viral on various social media platforms two weeks ago after he displayed fresh torture marks to the chest, hands and legs. He stated that security forces inflicted grave pain on his body using hot metal objects that left two raw wounds on his chest.

According to Bobi Wine, Mwesigwa was told to reveal plans being made by the NUP boss “to overthrow the government,”

However, in a twist of events, Mwesigwa has switched goal posts, exposing the claws of the NUP leadership and a plot by Bobi wine and the opposition party to deliberately taint the government’s image.

During a press briefing at the Cheiftancy of Military Intelligence (CMI) offices in Mbuya, Mwesigwa exposed the NUP leadership, saying he was promised 50 million shillings to undergo torture in order to cast the government in bad light.

He states that he was subjected to torture, dumped on the roadside and later picked up by his bosses. However, the deal turned sour when NUP leadership allegedly failed to keep their part of the bargain.

” I was approached by one ‘King Zaali’ , they told me I would be tortured and dumped on the roadside to make it look real, but I wasn’t paid as promised, not even 20,000 shillings”Mwesigwa narrates

The military spokesman Kulayigye had earlier dismissed the claims in a statement asserting that the man “was not in the hands of any security agency.”

That statement angered a section of the public who believed Mwesigwa’s side of the story.
