UPDF: “Mwesigwa Eric was not in the hands of any security agency.”

The Uganda People’s Defence Forces(UPDF) has urged a National Unity Platform supporter alleging torture by the security forces to report the matter to the Uganda Human Rights Commission.

Eric Mwesigye claims he was abducted by security operatives at the Cheiftancy of Military intelligence,(CMI) where he was tortured and burnt with metallic objects.

He claims security officers burnt his chest with hot metals and kicked him on the chest and stomach while tasking him to reveal plans being cooked by the NUP boss Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine and company  to overthrow the government.

Mwesigye was paraded by the NUP Principal in his office without a shirt while displaying fresh torture marks to his chest. He told Bobi Wine that the alleged security operatives later dumped him on the street.

Bobi Wine accused state security operatives of torture and illegal detention of civilians.

He said: ““They abducted him and tortured him asking what Bobi Wine and NUP are planning to do to “overthrow the government. What a group of cold-hearted criminals!” he said.

However, the UPDF Spokesperson Brig Gen Felix Kulayigye has dismissed allegations that security agencies arrested or tortured Mwesigye.

He has instead called on  the opposition National Unity Platform to liaise with the police and the Uganda Human Rights Commission for thorough investigations into these claims.

“Having done a thorough check on all security agencies, it has been established that one Mwesigwa Eric was not in the hands of any security agency. We advise him to go to the UHRC and report or the police so that we can commence an intensive investigation.”
