President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has assured the public that Uganda remains a secure and safe place despite isolated incidents of attacks from rebels attached to the Allied Allied Democratic Forces-ADF.
He was addressing the country on issues of national importance on Tuesday evening at State House Nakasero.
President Museveni said that security forces including the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (updf), Police and Intelligence organs will countered several attacks that have led to arrest or killing of said rebels.
The President called on Ugandans to only be vigilant, identify and report unusual looking persons in the public and leave the rest to security agencies. He allayed fears that Uganda’s security matters are questionable.
“There will be no insecurity in Uganda. I see some people making noise about security. If you have high blood pressure from somewhere else, please! please!…..The only thing we need from Ugandans is vigilance” he said
He explained further; “Ugandans should not worry about these attacks [by ADF]. UPDF is so strong; supported by police and intelligence services. There’s no way you can come here (in Uganda) with a gun and you think you shall survive. Ugandans should just be vigilant.”
The President cautioned ADF fighters to either surrender or get killed, adding that its sheer foolishness to think they can get away with attacks on civilians and security organs.
“My advice to ADF rebels in eastern DR Congo is that get out [of the forests] and surrender. If you don’t get out you’ll die. It’s really foolishness to think that you can commit crime in Uganda under NRM and you survive. Anybody who kills people will be arrested or killed if he tries to resist. There’s no way you’ll commit crime and not leave traces” He asserted
Museveni said that now that the current government of the Democratic Republic of Congo led by President Felix Tshishekedi allowed UPDF to carryout operations in Congo, the rebels will have nowhere to hide.
“I’m telling you wherever you are, we shall get them, we have been getting information about them. We even know their names; we are looking for them. There is no chance of these people surviving; maybe they didn’t know the capacity of the UPDF, there is no where we can’t reach. The only option is for these people to surrender, get out there and either surrender to the Congo army or to our units, which are there or even the UN but get out or you will die,” Museveni said.
