02 Primary pupils hurt in Wakiso school explosion

The explosion that occurred in the primary seven classroom on Thursday morning 4th October 2018, The pupils hurt were identified as Ashraf Igembe and Ronitah Namakula, both aged 13.
“Shortly after the incident the hurt pupils were rushed to National referral hospital Mulago for treatment. The boy’s (Igembe) hand was shattered as a result of the explosion while the girl’s (Namakula) eye was slightly injured,” said by the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire.
According to the Police spokesperson, the pupils were playing with an unidentified item before it exploded and injured them.
He said the item is yet to be identified by a team of experts from Police’s bomb squad, which rushed to the scene and collected fragments.
“We have also established that the unidentified object was brought into the school by one of the pupils identified as Abdul Kakooza, 12, who is said to have picked it yesterday (Wednesday) on his way home but carried it to school today,” Owoyesigyire explained.
