The Ministry of Health has indicated that a total seven new cases of Ebola Virus Disease have been confirmed in Kampala.
All seven are members of the same family and locals from Masanafu village, Rubia Parish in Rubaga Division.
According to the Minister for Health Jane Ruth Aceng, one of the positive family members is a health worker working at a private clinic in Sseguku, Kampala who treated a deceased patient and his wife from Kassanda.
The Ministry has also announced another five cases of the deadly disease that were transferred to the Entebbe Isolation for Treatment Unit last evening. Meanwhile, Mulago Unit has 58 contacts under quarantine.
Kampala has so far registered a cumulative number of 14 infections, bringing the total tally to nine.
The first Ebola case was confirmed on September 20, in Mubende district. The disease later spread to the areas of Kassanda, Bunyangabu, Kyegegwa, and Kagadi.
On October 20, 2022, President Yoweri Museveni directed a 21-day lockdown on Mubende and Kassanda districts to contain the disease outbreak.
Statistics from the Ministry of Health indicate that as of October 23, 2022, 75 infections were registered including 28 deaths.
The last outbreak of EVD due to Sudan ebolavirus in Uganda was reported in 2012.
