Police have recovered the lifeless body of an elderly woman in Malongo sub-county in Mayuge district who went missing in July this year.

The deceased is 78-year-old, Florence Nambozo, a resident of Wambette village, in Malongo sub-county.

Children found Nambozo’s lifeless body dumped in the swamp on Tuesday morning when they went to fetch water.

They alerted the residents who immediately alerted the local police, which picked up the body and took to it to Mayuge health center IV mortuary for postmortem.

Nambozo went missing in July 2022 and a case of a missing person was registered at the Malongo police post.

Twaha Talileku suspects that his grandmother was killed in another area and dumped in the swamp. “We draw water from this swamp on a daily basis. However, none of us noticed any strange activity and we were shocked to find out that our grandmother was found floating across the swamp,” he said.

Steven Mutalya, the area LC I chairperson, says that there are several witch doctors in their village, whom they suspect to have masterminded Nambozo’s killing.

“Several people within this area are superstitious and largely rely on witch doctors for redress, which is breeding fertile ground for criminal acts like human sacrifice,” he said.

Busoga East police spokesperson, Diana Nandawula, says that police detectives have been dispatched to the scene of the crime and a conclusive report concerning the same will be released after finalizing enquires.
