Viscous Fire Outbreak at Mbale City Garage Affects 50 Lockup Shops

Fire has gutted several lockup shops in Mbale City garage destroying motor vehicle and motorcycle spare parts and accessories worth millions of Shillings.

Eye witnesses claim the fire started as a result of an electrical short circuit from one of their neighbor’s shops at 10 am Wednesday morning before spreading to 50 other shops.

This is the second time fire has broken out at the same garage. In May 2022, fire destroyed properties worth millions, leaving several traders counting losses.

Ahamada Washaki, the Mbale Resident City Commissioner, has confirmed the incident and says that they are working towards a stop to the fires.

‘’It’s true fire has been at this place several times, even now, we need to seat with traders to find out the cause and how to mitigate re-occurrence, because every time fire breaks out, traders lose billions. We working on ending such incidents” Washaki says

Rogers Taitika the Elgon Region police spokesperson declined to comment, saying they were still compiling information on the fire.
