Gen Muhoozi Holds ‘Fruitful Discussion’ With Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed

Ethiopia’s Prime Minister who is also the Commander in Chief of his country’s armed forces received and held a meeting with Lieutenant General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Uganda’s senior presidential adviser on special operations and commander of Land Forces of the Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF).

The meeting took place on Wednesday at the National Palace in Addis Ababa.

Gen Kainerugaba was accompanied by Uganda’s State Minister of Foreign Affairs Henry Oryem and External Security Organisation Director General Joseph Ocwet.

“This morning our delegation had very good and fruitful discussions with our brother Prime Minister @AbiyAhmedAli of Ethiopia. We believe in African solutions to African problems. I’m optimistic about a resolution of the Ethiopian conflict. Godbless Africa!” Gen Kainerugaba tweeted Wednesday evening.

On Saturday, before his flight to Addis Ababa, Gen Kainerugaba, through his Twitter account emphasized the importance of Uganda and Ethiopia to East Africa’s stability.

“The stability of East Africa depends on two countries…Ethiopia and Uganda. The river Nile begins from these two mothers of Africa. I am going to Ethiopia to try and bring understanding between us. May Jesus Christ be with us!” Gen Kainerugaba said.

After landing at the Addis Ababa Bold International Airport in the Ethiopian capital, Sunday afternoon, Gen Kainerugaba was received by Uganda’s Ambassador to Ethiopia – HE Rebecca Amuge Otengo, Uganda’s Defense Advisor to Ethiopia – Col Fred Zakye and high level Ethiopian officials led by the National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS) Director-General – Temesgen Tiruneh and his deputies; Mr Sisey Tola and Mr Tazer Gebreegziabher.

Gen Kainerugaba would later that evening thank his hosts for a “very warm reception”.

Before meeting PM Abiy, Gen Kainerugaba met several security chiefs including the Minister of Defence Abraham Belay, Director NISS and the top leadership of the Ethiopian Federal Police.

The General and his delegation also visited the Ethiopian air force headquarters in Bishoftu near Addis Ababa where they met commanders there before visiting the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam on the Blue Nile River in the Benishangul-Gumuz Region of Ethiopia, about 45 km east of the border with Sudan.
