Gen Muhoozi in Ethiopia Ahead of Meeting with Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed

The Ugandan Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations and Commander Land Forces of the Uganda People’s Defense Forces, Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has arrived in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia ahead of his scheduled meeting with Ethiopian Prime Minister HE Abiy Ahmed.

Gen Kainerugaba landed at the Addis Ababa Bold International Airport in the Ethiopian capital, Sunday afternoon accompanied by Foreign Affairs Minister Henry Okello Oryem, Director External Security Organisation Joseph Ocwet and his Military Assistant, Col Mcdans Kamugira.

The Ugandan General was received by Uganda’s Ambassador to Ethiopia HE Rebecca Amuge Otengo, Uganda’s Defense Advisor to Ethiopia, Col Fred Zakye and high level Ethiopian officials led by the National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS) Director-General, Temesgen Tiruneh and his deputies; Mr Sisey Tola and Mr Tazer Gebreegziabher.

Gen Kainerugaba expressed gratitude for the “very warm reception” he received with his delegation.

On Saturday evening, Gen Kainerugaba shared a message on his Twitter account Saturday evening, highlighting the importance of Uganda-Ethiopia relations.

“The stability of East Africa depends on two countries…Ethiopia and Uganda. The river Nile begins from these two mothers of Africa. I am going to Ethiopia to try and bring understanding between us. May Jesus Christ be with us!” Gen Kainerugaba said in his tweet.

The Ugandan General then shared a Bible verse to follow the above message.

“Then Jesus said ‘Father, I thank you for hearing my prayer, now those who stand around me may believe that I am the resurrection and the life. And those who believe in me shall never die.’ (John 11:25-26).”

Gen Kainerugaba who is in Ethiopia at the invitation of HE Abiy Ahmed is also expected to meet top Ethiopian army officers.
