Security Guard arrested for shooting mad man dead

Police in Busoga East has arrested a security guard for shooting a 22-year-old, man dead.

The deceased has been identified as Daniel Agama, a mentally impaired resident of Nakamini village, in Namalemba sub-county, Bugweri district.

The suspect, whose particulars have been concealed for the purposes of aiding investigations, was guarding Naigombwa Seed Secondary School at the time of the incident.

The suspect, who is currently detained at Bugweri Central Police Station told journalists that he shot Agama on suspicion that he was a thief after he jumped over the school fence and broke into the administration block at 4 a.m.

Samuel Ibinga, the school head says that they have been battling endless break-ins, which prompted them to hire an armed security guard since the locally hired caretaker personnel were easily overpowered by the thieves.

Ibinga stresses that unknown thieves stole 15 computers from the school premises in May 2022, and the police are yet to release a comprehensive report about the same.

Meanwhile, the Busoga East Police Spokesperson, Diana Nandawula confirms the shooting, but she declined to divulge details, stressing that detectives are still reviewing the available evidence and exhibits obtained from the scene of the crime.

The deceased has been taken to Iganga General Hospital Mortuary for postmortem
