Uganda Rugby Are Africa 7s Champions, Qualify For World Cup.
The uganda men’s sevens National team has qualified after defeating zimbabwe 28-0 in the final held at Kyadondo Rugby club here on sunday, the sevens 2022 world cup will be held in South Africa.
Ian Munyani gave Uganda the lead with the first try, and Philip Wokorach made no mistake for the conversion for a 7-0 lead at halftime.
Uganda captain Michael Wokorach scored the team’s second try, before Timothy Kisiga added two more to seal the win.
In addition to winning the African crown, Uganda also qualified for the 2022 Commonwealth Games in birmingham in July.
“The players gave 100 percent and we are happy to achieve all the set objectives,” said Uganda coach Tobert Onyango.
Kenya also completed the podium, and qualified for the rugby world cup sevens after beating Zambia, 19-12, in the bronze medal match.
According to Rugby Africa, all three will qualify for a ticket for world cup slated for september 9-11 at Cape Town Stadium, while only the finalist will slots for the Birmingham for the Commonwealth games.
Some of the teams that took part included: Mauritius, Senegal, Burkina Faso, Tunisia, Ghana, Burundi, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Madagascar, Botswana, Namibia, Zambia and Cameroon.
