Four-time presidential candidate, Dr Kizza Besigye, has said the former Inspector General of Police (IGP), Gen. Kale Kayihura, deserves a fair and speedy hearing.

Kayihura, who has been in military detention since June 13 when he was arrested from his country home in Lyantonde district, was on Friday finally charged in the General Court Martial in Makindye.

In a tweet, Besigye said Kayihura, as IGP, excelled in high-handedness and acted with impunity.

“However, he too, deserves a fair and speedy hearing! Can OTHERS learn??” Besigye asked.

Kayihura was charged with failure to protect war materials and aiding the kidnapping and illegal repatriation of Rwandans.

Kayihura, however, denied all of them. He will return to court on August 28 for hearing of his bail application, and on September 4, for further mention of his case.
