Capture of Kambi ya Yua Denies ADF Freedom of Action – UPDF

Kambi Ya Yua is one of the Allied Democratic Forces/Islamic State Central African Province/ Madinat Tawaheed Mujahideen (ADF/ISCAP/MTM) former strong holds that were attacked and neutralised by UPDF Air and artillery strikes at the beginning of Operation Shujaa on 30th November 2021.

Others are Belu 1, Belu 2, and Tondoli.

According to deputy spokesperson of the UPDF Lt Col Ronald Kakurungu, the strikes have proved the effectiveness the UPDF air power and artillery by significantly diminishing the terrorists’ freedom of action to plan and execute atrocities, especially against innocent civilians in DRC.

“In Kambi Ya Yua, which was recently captured and dominated by the joint UPDF and FARDC forces, the terrorists fleeing from the heavy fire power, abandoned a PK machine gun, loaded 300 rounds of live ammunition, solar panels that were being used to maintain their communication systems, a laptop computer, ascetic acid (GLACLAL) and fertilisers used in making improvised explosive devices,” Col Kakurungu said in a statement released Friday.

The fortified enemy positions, many of which were the command posts of senior leaders were equally destroyed and made inhabitable for them, Col Kakurungu added.

He explained that this effective fire has eased the work of the ground forces in clearing and dominating all these former strongholds.

Using Intelligence, Surveillance, target acquisition and reconnaissance assets, the joint forces continue to locate many more targets which are then immediately engaged by air and artillery strikes.

UPDF and FARDC will continue to hunt down the ADF/ISCAP terrorists in North Kivu and Ituri provinces of Eastern DRC, in line with the General Agreement on Defence Co-operation between the Government of the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Government of the Republic of Uganda and the Memorandum of Understanding between the Uganda People’s Defence Forces and the Democratic Republic of Congo Armed Forces.
