The Police have gunned down a suspected terrorist in Kyebando-Kawempe Division a Kampala City suburb.

Fred Enanga, the Police Spokesperson has identified the deceased as Hamid Nsubuga, a suspected suicide bomber who escaped from Pader district in Northern Uganda in August.

“Nsubuga Hamid is the supposed suicide bomber who escaped from Pader, after their plans to attack mourners at the burial of the late DIGP, Lt Gen Paul Lokech were foiled by security agencies,” said Enanga.

According to Police, the deceased was gunned down by a Police team from the Counter-Terrorism Division in the process of arresting him. “Our joint Counter Terrorism teams have put out of action an armed terrorist in Kyebando, Kampala, who turned violent during attempts to have him arrested,” said the Police spokesman.

Enanga explains that Nsubuga was trailed while on an assassination mission of someone whose details can’t be revealed. Police said they have recovered a pistol, ammunition and other evidence. “We continue to maintain high levels of vigilance, as we strengthen our responses in countering all forms of terrorism,” he added.

In August this year, a suspected suicide bomber was arrested in a lodge in Pader after assembling alleged explosives. On interrogation, the suspect Katumba Abdul allegedly revealed more information about others that the security has continued to hurt for in different parts of the country.
