77 year-old Attempts Suicide by Setting Self on Fire.

In a tragic incident in Kyengeza A village, Kirumba district, Nowerena Nakabuubi, a 77-year-old woman, attempted to take her own life by setting herself on fire, reportedly due to neglect by her children.

Nakabuubi, who had been suffering from leg pain, managed to undress before heading to where she kept fuel and set herself ablaze.

Residents, led by Ssekyanja Zaveriano, rushed to her aid and pulled her out of the flames, but she had sustained severe burns.

Ssekyanja recounted that Nakabuubi had often expressed her desire to end her life, claiming that she was being neglected by her six children. Three of her children live in Nairobi, Kenya, while the other three reside in Kampala. According to the residents, her children had provided her with a young child to live with, but this arrangement seemed insufficient to alleviate her feelings of abandonment.

Local authorities, led by Kirumba Police’s Musinguzi Appolo, were alerted to the situation and quickly ordered Nakabuubi to be taken to Kaliisizo General Hospital for medical treatment. The community has been left shocked by the incident.
