5 million Voters Endorse President Museveni for 2021

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) has presented more than five million signatures to support President Yoweri Museveni’s candidature as the party’s flagbearer.

A statement released by the party secretariat on Friday said the Deputy Secretary General, Richard Todwong, led the delegation which submitted the millions of signatures to the Electoral Commission as a pre-requisite for presidential candidates’ nomination ahead of the 2021 race.

Todwong said the party had collected over five million signatures from registered voters across the 142 districts of Uganda. Uganda has about 19 million registered voters.

“We are submitting early enough to enable the Commission to carry out the verification exercise on time,” Todwong added.

Todwong was in the company of the party’s Deputy National Treasurer, Jacquline Kyatuheire.

The files were received by acting EC Secretary Leonard Mulekwa.

Speaking on behalf of the Electoral Commission, Mulekwa commended NRM for honouring the National Roadmap.

“We opened up yesterday and NRM is the first to respond,” he said, adding that a certificate would be issued on completion of the verification exercise.

Kyatuheire commended the party members across the country for their overwhelming response towards the exercise.

Museveni will be officially presented to EC for nomination on November 2 at 10am.

So far more than 80 candidates have picked nomination forms to run for the presidency.
